walking along the rice fields

Nasi (rice) means food in Indonesia. We drove through the terraced rice fields towards Mt. Agung on our way home from Manggis last weekend. People were out working in and along the flooded fields. It was also time for the ducks to do there thing—wandering around eating and fertilizing the fields and then when they get all fattened up, they eat the ducks. The cycle of life.

This is my first time at drawing a figure using a pencil contour drawing and then adding watercolor. Now that's hard! I need a life drawing class...

I have just spent about 20 minutes reading all your posts since early last summer. I'd read some of them before, but to immerse myself here now and to follow the story of your life in recent months is such a pleasure, Jennifer. I don't know the reasons why you've moved and are now on a long trip abroad (after Bali, where?) but I admire you and am cheering you on wholeheartedly. Your sketches are pure magic.

Love this watercolour. So balanced and delicate. Very beautiful.

I think you did a great job on this! I think you should stick with your technique of pencil and watercolor and not worry about a life drawing class!--Carol C

I think you did a great job. It'll probably seem easier if you do it more often but the picture turned out great.

I too find myself curious as to wether this is a pleasure trip or work trip. Either way you are fascinating all of us with your beautiful depiction of Bali.

Beautiful! And it looks as if it flowed off your brush without any struggle at all.

Wow, for a first time ever doing a figure, this is wonderful! It will be interesting to see what you sketch/paint and what you use to do it since you are in a much different environment than Maine. I think you really captured this person's essence and being.

I am taking a life drawing class and I looked at your lovely figures and went: how can I do that? you captured these women beautifully. I love the pencil drawing covered by watercolor.
Thank you for sharing your journey with us. It is very lovely.
