Another cold, gray day in Portland

I spent years buying paper, paints and all sorts of drawing materials. Intending to draw or paint, only to never even crack open the package. It wasn't until I read "The Creative License" that I started this new life of daily sketching. I am determined not to waste all the papers that I have accumulated over the years. I know nothing about watercolor paper and here I am with a block of 140 lb rough paper. Why did I buy this? I have no idea, but it makes me mad to think I did—ugh. It is a difficult surface for this trained graphic designer to use, but It is good enough for practice. The rest of my rough paper practices are in the building's dumpster.

Very nice! I love the way you left some of the painting unfinished.

:-) I think we all have piles of art supplies waiting to be used ! This is another lovely scene, I enjoy Old Port very much, and it is so sketch-worthy. AND if you have stacks of 140# rough paper, you could sell it on ebay!! Then use the $$ to buy more supplies :-) Hope you are feeling better!

Wonderful painting. I like the shadow too. Very well done.

I would never know this was rough paper--it's a shame you had to work against the surface (I used to like rough paper for seascapes, but don't even use if for that now), but this painting turned out beautifully!

The paper looks great for this! Hope this means you are feeling better. I'm off to hit the local dumpsters for treasures.

I love your little urban scenes. I do have a hard time with rough papers--it always feels to me as if I have to drag the brush over the paper. This is lovely, Jennifer!

I also like your street scenes...softly crisp (if there is such a state).
