sew what?
I don't sew much anymore, but when I do, I notice the dozens of stitches on my machine and I use two. I remember the Singer Featherweight that I learned to sew on. It was a simple hard working machine with forward and reverse. My mom made my graduation dress from 8th grade on that little machine. Can you guess the year?

It looks similar to the one my Granny had, the granny I never liked. So I would say in the 1950's. Cause I was born in 1960 and she always referred to it as an old machine and she wanted a newer one. I inherited my foster mom's which was a 1962 singer and it looks more modern than yours. I know that the older singers are better made.
Wonderful sketch by the way.
Great sketch! And I'll guess the year of the dress as 1972 or so -- and I will even go so far as to guess that it was made from a Simplicity pattern, because I had two just like this, one with long sleeves and one with short ...
:-D Am I close?
Jen, I don't think you have aged a bit:) N
I'm gonna go with '70 or '72 for the dress - it's a great one by the way. As for the featherweight - my mom taught me to sew on hers, I inherited it from her, and I still use it. I don't think there's a thing in the world that little machine can't tackle. I love it. You did a beautiful job with the drawing. Thanks for sharing.
1968. And I bet the shoes are Capezio, too.
What a wonderful picture! And yep, I used one like that for years, too, and much preferred it to my newer one...
Another "masterpeice"...I am in love with your detail Jennifer! You go girl! ;)
Nice sketch of the Singer! In those days, they were really built to last! Not the cheap stuff you find today. I'd put the year in the early 50's
heee hee hee
I love the sketch but about the dress....
63?
Thank you all for the great comments and the guesses. The sewing machine was built in 1955 and the dress was made in 1968. Judith got it right and correctly guessed the make of my shoes. Then again, she and I have known each other since we graduated from 8th grade together 40 years ago...
What a great memory sketch this one is!
Really wonderful detail. I enjoy your drawings.
I know that machine! It's what I learned to sew on. Wonderful drawing.
I always like to see a great drawing of machinery.
This is brilliant. brillaint. love the photo too. So what year was it???
Ok, I did look through the comments and didn't see your answer first time around. 1968? Looking good.
