Sophie and I are home alone until December so we spend a lot of time together. I did this self-portrait for Friday's homework assignment. We were suppose to use pastel with music. I had just come in from a "Sophie walk" so I kept my favorite sunglasses on, which I love because not only are they oversized, but they are readers. I decided to smile because non-smiling looks so grim, dismal and UGH—old. I sketched with a brush pen before adding pastel.
Self—brush pen and pastel.
I caught Sophie resting her muzzle on her stuffed toy—sooooooooo cute! I quickly sketched her and added watercolor.

Wonderful portraits! I agree with you about smiling, it's so much more pleasant.
I love the combo of the brush pen and pastel. You did a great job on the skin tones too. And of course Sophie is as cute as ever!
I like your new do and Sophie looks adorable here. I am jealous of the class.
Great pieces. Always enjoy your work.
Awesome! Not only are you talented at drawing and painting, but you are coordinated too! I cannot seem to smile while doing a self-portrait! It sort of feels like rubbing my stomach while patting my head! (eh, I hope that wasn't just a local thing and that it made sense!?)
Both the portraits of you and Sophie are great! I love the colors in yours, and Sophie, of course, is adorable! nancy
These are excellent drawings! Love the lines the brush pens create, and you direct them so well! I am also so impressed with the last two posts - the stretching your boundaries, and the beautifully drawn buildings.
Beautiful joyous pieces both...I think you may have found a new friend in your pastels...:)
Awww--these are wonderful, Jennifer. Is there any medium you can't master? I love these. Sophie looks absolutely like the cutest little pup.
love your Sophie sketch!
Love, love, love what you are doing here. They are ALL my favourites!
