EDM #241—view from my kitchen window
A quick sketch before heading out for a day of being "landlord girl". Our 5th floor kitchen window looks over the roof tops in Portland's "Old Port". There is usually a mama seagull perched on the chimney on the hotel next door. She stands watching and protecting her babies who sit on the roof behind her. I have watched them run along the roof after her flapping their wings learning to fly. One tumbled off the roof and for several days walked around the square and our parking lot. I kept hoping that it would figure out how to get airborne...soon.

That looks like just the kind of place I would like to live, with a view or rooftops, by the sea, lovely watercolor!

ReplyDeleteI agree! I love your composition -- and that you included only 'parts' of things in view. It makes the viewer wonder about what else lies outside the view. It invites some follow-on thinking or wondering... it has a way of engaging the viewer.

A quick sketch? Gosh, it would take me quite awhile to finish something as lovely as the view you have painted! Love the shapes of all of the buildings, rooftops, and the steeple. And the gull that centers it all!

ReplyDeleteWonderful blog with great sketches... Portland is a beautiful city that we try to get to at least once during the summer and Acadia is our favorite place to play. Lovely pieces!
