This week...

"The Great Gatsby"
Jerry's son, Alex, has a sweet rescue boxer named Gatsby. He is way more trained than Sophie when it comes to "sit, stay and come", however, he did think he needed to show that he was the alpha male dog...in the house. Sophie just walked into the bedroom with that "I would never do that" look on her face.

I practice drawing hands whenever I am at a loss of what to draw. The other day while in the waiting room I did this partial blind contour drawing from a magazine. I added color when I got home.

For Grace Uhm, a fellow Julia Kay Portrait Party member. She asked me to do a sketch for her from a photograph she sent me. Here it is Grace. I hope you like it.

In today's class today we did collage portraits using magazines and pasting it on with our hands. Martha brought books from the artist Romare Bearden. The model was sitting in front of colorful draped fabric in the studio. She didn't have a dog and neither of them had crowns...

I so enjoy looking at your art that I was disappointed when the link didn't work...and I see I was missing out on more amazing posts so I'm happy I said something! :)

Wonderful sketches, as always. I particularly like the one of Gatsby--the colors in his fur, the pot of flowers, the expression on his face--all delightful!

The good drawing makes a painting. You do the watercolor so good, but the drawings are the salt and they are wonderful.

I absolutely love the colors in your portrait party sketch! Well, actually I love the colors in all of your sketches!! This is the first I've seen of your work, but I know it won't be the last!

That is the most heart-filled portrait of Gatsby. Love it, Jennifer. And these others are each amazing as well: love the perspective on the one for your friend, and the hands are awesome. I love Romare Bearden--I have a mousepad with one of his jazz images on it that I had to have. I can definitely see the influence in your piece here.

Your work is always a joy.

I haven't been online much lately, and now visiting again, I am so impressed by how much you're pushing yourself to experiment! Wonderful results!

I really like the black lab and the splotches. I think you are a wonderful artist - your drawing skills are really quite impressive.

But Mr. Gatsby looks so old and grizzled! It is a very representative posture, I must say. I do so enjoy paintings of the loved ones!

be well and see you soon.

I love this portrait of Gatsby, you have captured the soulful expression that boxers have so well.
