Cooped up

We had a wild storm that lasted for several days. Rain, sleet and wind—blowing 50+ miles per hour one night. Just Sophie and I listening to the rain pelt against the rattling windows and objects flying off the deck. Being on the fifth floor it felt as though the building was swaying.

Self portrait 1—after the gym.
I usually managed to get to the gym despite my not wanting to face the nasty weather.

Self portrait 2—All dressed up.
The major part of the storm is over so I am finally getting out. A quick self portrait before going to Sarah's to learn how to make handmade journals.

Sophie managed to sleep through it all.

I've been 'watercoloring' for just a year now. Discovered your website today. What inspiration! Your self portraits are fantastic. The landscape of the Bali hillside 'home for sale' is rich in both color and detail. You capture motion with your Olympic skiing portrayals and your use of color is stunning. Splotches. Splatters. Whatever!

These are great sp's, Jennifer. I love the skin tones. I think I'd have elected to follow Sophie into dreamland in the storm. Good for you for venturing out.

Your self-portraits are stunning - I love this style! I especially like that appraising stare on the first one - it's a little scary actually. :) Anyway, the colors, the blending, the varying width of the black lines - marvelous! Of course the little dog's good too.

Hi Drawn2life,

Thanks for stopping by.

I use all sorts of journals—Watercolor Moleskines, Aquabee Deluxe, HandBook and Raffine. Lately I am using cheap sheets of 140 lb CP watercolor that I have cut up into small sizes. I find the more I paint, the more I like a 140 lb paper because I like the way the paint settles in unpredictable ways because as you can see, I really like to slop the paint around.

Your art and blog are fabulous! And you are inspiring, both in your art and getting to the gym in freezing Maine weather when I find it too drizzly in Northern California! I'm going to add a link to your blog from mine.
