Charles Reid workshop—The final day

Our fifth and final workshop day was suppose to be plein air painting, but the weather here in new England was not cooperating. As a backup plan, Charles brings vintage black and white photographs for us to paint from. It is all about imagination and fun. When we stopped in San Francisco, I happened to have slipped a photo of my dad in his high school football uniform into my handbag and hadn't yet taken it out. I used it for the above painting.

My dad playing football for "Paly High" (Palo Alto High School in Palo Alto, California circa 1943).

Late that afternoon, I packed up the car, said goodbye to everyone and headed back to Maine. My ride started with this sign post at the first turn on the way out of Manchester. Made me wish I had GPS.

Thank you, Charles for a wonderful workshop.

What a great week--thanks to cr and to you for sharing it all.
I love this painting of your dad--it's beautiful: the color, the runbacks, what you painted and what you left unpainted.
Great work all week ... !

I have very much enjoyed seeing your process through this workshop! love the work you have done! I'm really loving all the dripping and think I'll have to brave it myself and get out of my very controlled style of painting with watercolor.

Once again, thanks so much for sharing this. You did some great work on the course - it will be interesting to see how your learning effects your painting in the longer term.

Jennifer, I have really enjoyed all your workshop posts--I'm such a fan of Charles Reid's work, and you really took it all in like a sponge, from the looks of your work. Your painting of your dad is beautiful--will you give it to him?

I too am a fan of Reid's work, and have always wanted to take a workshop; I felt like I was there, at least vicariously, because of your excellent and engaging posts. Looking forward to seeing more of your work, which is by the way is beautiful!

I am just THRILLED to see these and to even think of attending a Charles Reid workshop, Your work is wonderful! I love your still lifes ... but the people are my FAVE. Wow! If I practice really, really hard for a few years maybe I can attend one of his workshop's too. As it is I recently found a 1979 book on flowers oh his. The style is similar to now, but there are differences ... or maybe the pages just faded. Anyhow WONDERFUL WORK, JENNIFER!
