out and about in the Old Port

Dropping by the neighborhood Thai restaurant.

getting ready to BBQ

When I am sketching it means I am not really helping to prepare the meals...

early evening on Smugglers Cove

A very quick ink and watercolor sketch while enjoying another family event. Will this visit ever end?

the day after the solstice party

A quick sketch of me resting in town before we headed back to the beach to gather, once again, for more family fun. A bigger crowd and rain had us all packed inside, but a good time was had by all. Monday we said good bye to my brother, the rain and my headache.

Summer solstice lobster bake

The fog lifted and we had the most beautiful evening for our family lobster bake at the beach. I managed this quick sketch of Smugglers Cove after we had gathered wood for the fire and wet seaweed to steam the lobsters, mussels, clams and corn. The light was so much prettier than this, but I was not staying focused with all the festivities going on around me. The curse of the extrovert!

Maruman X "Transitions"

Here are two of the ten pages in my Maruman Exchange project called "Transitions".  The four of us participating in this sketch book exchange are Nina Johansson in Sweden, Anita Davies in England and Margaret Storer-Roche and I in the US. Each of us will fill ten pages in each sketch book and send it on. I am looking forward to the day that my own Maruman lands back in Maine with the  pages filled with work of these very talented artists.

EDM challenge: draw a basket

I hardly ever draw with pencil because I am such an impatient scribbler and when I am out and about I get it all over everything—the drawing, my hands, my clothes...A quiet evening at home, I decided to do a pencil drawing of this basket I bought in the the low country of South Carolina filled with rocks I collected in the north country of Maine.

evening at the beach ll

Another attempt at capturing Kettle Cove using Pentel brush pen and a different sketch journal.

evening at the beach

Not much time for anything these days, but a quick sketch while sitting on the rocks at Kettle Cove looking out towards Richmond Island. The days are so long that the sun was still fairly high in the sky at 7:30 pm.

EDM challenge: draw a grouping of 2 or more of similar objects

My latest renovation is for sale so when there is a showing Sophie and I have to find things to do away from the house. Yesterday, we went to the beach. I sketched rocks and shells and Sophie rolled in the wet sand and seaweed.

Old Custom House tower

A very warm summer afternoon here in Maine. I sat on the deck at Fore St and sketched looking across at the roof tower of the old Custom House building on the waterfront.

EDM challenge: draw some fruit

The final page in my small watercolor Moleskine. Although the horizontal format can be challenging at times, it is a great size for packing around town with some pens, my little Schminke watercolors and Niji brush. The new one is packed and ready to go.

EDM challenge: draw a beverage

Hot Sake with dinner on Friday night. An appetizer of conch, which I didn't try, was followed by a beautiful platter of sushi which didn't look so beautiful in my drawing so it will forever be in my sketch journal.

EDM challenge: draw some hair

Bobo and Jazzy waiting on the couch last night before we all raced into the bedroom to dibs our spots on the bed.

Chewy

Chewy is a lovable one-eyed Shitazu who belongs to very good friends in California. My 82 year old father chased him around his yard getting photos for me to do a portrait. Thanks, Dad.

"invasion"

I have been invaded by dandelions and when the wind blows it looks as though it is snowing. Oh good, next year...more dandelions.

EDM challenge: draw something hot

I don't like hot food so I won't eat anything made with these red hot chillies. I do, however, think they are beautiful and were very fun to paint.
